XO Cellular PVC Board is the high-quality wood replacement remedy offering
rot-free solutions without giving up the look of wood. The superior exterior
solution, XO can be used for trimboards, fascia, cornerboards, beadboards, columns
and more, but must never be used in load bearing applications.
XO Cellular PVC Board is available in XO Smooth or XO Wood Grain (one side
features the look of natural wood grain and the other side is pre-sanded to
a smooth finish). When using XO Wood Grain, pay close attention and be consistent,
turning the same side out throughout the job. If you know that your
project will require smooth surfaces only, then simply order XO Smooth.
To ensure optimum product performance, the following guidelines are recommended. Installation Guidelines (PDF) To Cut, Rout or Drill - You should cut, drill and rout XO with the same tools used to cut natural hardwoods.
- For cutting and routing, we recommend using carbide tipped blades (avoid fine tooth blades).
- Standard woodworking drills should be used.
- We recommend pre-drilling in temperatures of 32° and below.
- Clean drill periodically as PVC may gum up bits under excessive friction.
Nailing and Fastening - Never span more than 24" with XO.
- For best product performance, use durable fasteners (stainless steel or hot dipped galvanized) designed for wood trim and wood siding.
- Fasteners must be installed no more than a few inches from the end of each XO board. Always work from one end to the other.
- Anchor all board and sheet applications solidly to substrate.
- Avoid fastening XO on hollow surfaces.
Painting - We recommend 100% acrylic latex paint for use on XO.
- We recommend colors with an L value of 57 and higher.
Gluing - A variety of PVC cements and glue are readily available. Please follow individual manufacturers guidelines for use.
- When jointing XO, remember to consider Thermal Expansion and Contraction. Varying conditions make it hard to predict the exact movement of the product, but a good rule of thumb would be allowing 1/16" per 10' length. For this reason, mitered joints are highly recommended.
Handling - XO is shipped on pallets and covered by plastic wrap. Broken bundles may arrive packed differently.
- Like fine hardwoods, XO should be handled properly to avoid damage.
- XO should be stored flat and level to prevent it from settling to uneven surfaces.
